On Friday night I went to my first Open Mic event at the Cafe Kafka. Poems were read in English, German and Spanish and guest poet, Sarita Jenamani, read from her work in English, with excerpts in her mother tongue, Oriya, and in Hindi. When poets speak in languages you can’t understand, it’s the music that works – and that too is poetry. Sarita is a writer in exile and you can hear an interview in English with this Indian writer that explains her special sort of exile by clicking the stream at the Cultural Broadcasting Archive.
